How prices are calculated
Tradetopia calculates prices from advertised offers. They show what players ask or offer, not what items have sold for.
Buy prices, sell prices and medians
- Sell price Buying an item?
- What sellers ask you to pay. Look at this side when planning a purchase.
- Buy price Selling an item?
- What buyers offer to pay. Look at this side when planning a sale.
Median example: the middle price
With an even number of entries, it is the average of the two middle values.
- Item page
- The main price uses your selected date range and offer sides.
- Directory & watchlist
- The sell median uses retained advertisements, which can include older offers.
Records may have expired, so this is not complete trading history.
Why can these prices differ?
A seven-day combined median includes buy and sell offers from the last seven days. The sell median across retained advertisements also includes older sell offers still represented in the data. These calculations can give different prices for the same item.
How much history is available?
Exact ad text, frozen daily prices and Activity facts have separate retention boundaries. Check the coverage dates shown with the evidence.
- Original ad text
- Older surviving ads are supplementary; they do not establish complete coverage before the exact-detail boundary. An empty result outside that boundary cannot prove that no ads were posted.
- Frozen daily prices
- Frozen daily medians are chart evidence. Averaging them cannot produce a period price, and adding daily account counts would count returning accounts more than once.
- Activity facts
- Activity counts can remain available after original ad text expires, within Activity's own boundary.
Price units
100 WL = 1 DL and 100 DL = 1 BGL. At 20 items per WL, each item costs 0.05 WL, so 200 items cost 10 WL. A higher items-per-WL number means a lower price per item.
The trade calculator multiplies the selected unit price by your quantity. Choose Sell asks, Buy offers or Combined buy + sell, and check the calculation below the total. Confirm stock and the final price with the trader.
Understanding the listing counts
- Listings
- Recorded posts, including reposts.
- Posting accounts
- The Discord accounts used in the price calculation.
- Price entries
- Offers left after matching prices for the same world are grouped together.
None of these counts represents completed trades or verified individual players.
Check the dates and any sampling notice alongside the price. Reposts can increase the listing count, and older retained offers can still affect the price even if the item has a recent listing.
How are repeated posts handled?
For each date range, Tradetopia uses each known Discord account's latest usable buy offer and latest usable sell offer. Offers with the same item, side, WL price and nonblank world count as one price entry, even when different accounts posted them. World names are matched ignoring capitalization and spaces at either end. Offers with blank worlds, different worlds or different prices remain separate. This reduces the influence of reposts; it doesn't establish who owns a world or how many players are trading.
How are the chart points and combined median calculated?
Each chart point applies the same rules within its own time interval. Buy and sell prices are calculated separately. The combined median includes both, so an account with a buy offer and a sell offer can contribute to each side. A new usable offer replaces that account's earlier offer for the same side in that interval.
Why is a price missing or an item absent from the directory?
An item appears in the public price directory when it has at least three separate sell-price entries and a positive median. Matching prices for the same world count once, even if several accounts posted them. An item can still have its own page when it has fewer sell entries, only buy offers, or a price calculation that isn't ready yet. Offers without a posting-account ID count toward activity but aren't used to calculate prices. A missing price doesn't mean an item is free.
What do sampled charts, bars and percentages mean?
A sampled chart uses a limited set of recent listings, so it may omit some accounts or older dates. Chart volume bars count listing activity; price-spread bars count the price entries in each range. Homepage percentage changes compare the first and last recorded interval medians over seven days. These figures don't measure completed sales or profit.
Does the Activity filter change the price period?
The directory's Activity filter finds items with recent posts. Their displayed sell prices still use retained advertisements across their available dates. On an item page, the chart and listings have separate date controls.
Report a price problem
Check the original listing's item, price unit, quantity and world. Item details and sprites come from the Growtopia Wiki. Tradetopia adds market information and is independent of Growtopia and the wiki.
If a price or item looks wrong, use Support & feedback to send us the item page and original listing. Include the value you think is incorrect and its price unit.
